This is the original "Batman", shot in 1929 and released in 1930. This character, "The Bat" originally was a jewel thief, he murders a detective, and assumes his identity. Bob Kane, in the 30s, saw this film and I assume came up with the idea of the comic "Batman Detective Comics" based on this film.
If you are a Batman fan, watch this, the cinematography is crazy cool, and used many miniatures mixed in with live action to tell the story. Whats really interesting is that the lighting and camera movement is so ahead of its time that if the director hadnt been accused of killing his wife and becoming blacklisted in Hollywood, he could have been more famous and prolific than the master himself- Alfred Hitchcock.
Watch the film and see what Im talking about.
